Ardnamurchan is thought by some to translate from the Scottish Gaelic as the point of the high seas. Any visitor to this lonely peninsula on a really wild day would surely agree with that apt description. The breakers lashing the tip of this headland during a westerly gale can be a truly amazing display of the raw forces of nature in action. Brooding high above this rocky terminus is the giant granite tower of Ardnamurchan Lighthouse the most westerly in the whole of mainland Britain.
